ASIAN-AMERICAN ELECTED OFFICIALS HONORED
James and Jenny Ko Calaway, Event ChairsA luncheon honoring Houston-area Asian-American elected officials was held in the Hyatt Regency Downtown Imperial Ballroom. The guest speakers were State Senator John Whitmire and Former Houston Mayor Bob Lanier. Attendees included: all nine honorees listed below, Japanese Consul General Yoshihiko Kamo, Bobby Singh, Former First Lady Elyse Lanier, Jason Yoo, Russell Richard, Gary Orr, Mohamed Gire, Vu Thanh Thuy of Radio Saigon Houston, Ann and Terry Cheng, Robert Peiser, Helen Chang, County Clerk Beverly Kaufman, Roxann Newman, Luis Perez, Richard Huff, Cindy Clifford, Theresa Chang, Glen Gondo, Alice Chen, George Gee, Genaro Pena, Margaret Bott, Leroy Hermes, Yali Zou, Patti Whitmire Carlton, Dr. Priscilla Slade, Dr. Max Castillo, Elsie Huang, and Richard Fernandez.
The Proceed from this event, $20,000.00, was presented to Houston Community College, Texas Southern University, University of Houston, and University of Houston-Downtown. Each college received $5,000.00. The raffle ticket sale for two Continental Airlines tickets, $1,420.00, was donated to the Houston Katrina Relief Fund.
