To celebrate the month of May as Asian American Heritage Month, Asia Houston Network is hosting our second annual Bridge Across Cultures art contest, an exciting project for high school juniors and seniors in all Houston-area ISDs.

Students interested in participating in this art contest can contact his/her art teacher at school.



Guidelines

Eligibility: This art contest is open to juniors and seniors in Houston's public high schools.

Awards: The 1st place winner will receive $1,000, two 2nd place winners will receive $750 each, and three 3rd place winners will receive $500 each. All participants' work will be recognized with a certificate of merit. Scholarships generously underwritten by Chevron.

Number of Entries: Each teacher may submit a maximum of four entries.

Specifications: 2D work only. All entries must be original work of the student. All work must be matted with WHITE mats. Borders must be at least 2" around the work. Work may have a colored insert. The outer dimensions of all two-dimensional work must be at least 11x14" and not larger than 24x36".

Inventory Forms: Work must be submitted in one sturdy portfolio or box with an inventory form attached for repacking at the end of the competition.

Entry Forms: An entry form must be attached to each artwork on the back. Please fill out both sections of the form as one section will stay with the artwork and one will be removed and used by the jury during competition. Please retain one copy of the entry forms for your records.

Receiving: Receiving will take place from Monday, May 16 to Wednesday, May 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Art Institute of Houston, 1900 Yorktown. Please drop off the artwork with the receptionist in the lobby. Teachers from the same school may wish to share the responsibilities of delivery and pick-up. The artwork should be addressed to Deborah Helman, PR Director.

Judging: May 19(closed to public)

Announcement of winners: The announcement will be made at a reception on Thursday, May 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of The Art Institute of Houston, 1900 Yorktown. All participants and their parents, teachers and guests are asked to attend.

Pick-up and Return of Entries: All entries not selected must be picked up by the student, teacher or a designated person at the May 19th reception. The winner's artwork will be displayed in the Chevron building lobby in downtown during selected weeks in May.
